4 Days/3 Nights From/to Quito

Ecuador - geographically it is a small country which is uniquely endowed with a dramatic topography and a variety of climatic zones, vegetation, birds and wildlife. Without ever leaving the country, travellers can move in a matter of hours from jungle/rainforest to the high slopes of the Andeans and then down to the Pacific coast, while observing a breathtaking panorama of scenery and nature.

En route, through Ecuador ’s wonderful world of nature you will be able to follow the courses of broad and narrow rivers; rest along the shores of pristine lakes; explore mysterious caves and marvel at unique plant and animal species that have evolved undisturbed on isolated islands in the Pacific – the Galapagos Islands.

From the highlands to sea level, Ecuador 's fascinating diversity is echoed by its people whose cultural origins and traditions continue to be formed by their immediate geographical environment.

Day 01                                                                                                                      Quito – Coca

• Canoe ride to Sacha Lodge
• Hike through the primary jungle

Early morning flight to Coca. In Coca a guide from the Lodge will pick you up and take you to the Napo River. You will board a motorized canoe that will take you down river. The ride takes about 2 ½ hours. A box lunch will be served. 

Sacha Logde is located in the heart of the Amazon basin, the largest tract of tropical rainforest on the planet. At 50 miles downstream from the port town of Coca and twenty minutes from the banks of the majestic Napo River, Sacha is strategically situated beside a tranquil oxbow lake, Pilchicocha, which used to form part of the Napo River itself.

Upon arrival to Sacha Lodge's property, you will be taken to your first walk on a raised boardwalk through flooded palm forest to Pilchicocha lake (staff will transport your luggage for you). Here, dugout canoes await you to paddle across the lake to the lodge itself.

In the afternoon you will explore the variety of species on a hike through the primary jungle. Afterwards visit one of the largest butterfly farms of Ecuador. During the excursions you will be accompanied by two guides: a local guide with a large knowledge on medical plants of the jungle and a bilingual naturalist-guide, who is an expert in local biology and ecology. The naturalist guide will inform you about the activities of the next day during dinner.

Day 02                                                                                                                              Amazon

• Canopy walkway jungle observation
• Jungle hike

In order to take advantage of the cool morning hours when the animals of the rainforest are most active you will have an early start into the day. After breakfast you will visit a rather new attraction of the Sacha Lodge: a 940-foot (275-meter) long canopy walkway.

At approximately 94 feet (30 meters) above the ground, imagine exploring the rainforest up in the treetops! This study walkway is fixed to the ground by three metal towers for stability, and offers an unbelievable opportunity to spot dozens of animals and epiphytes seldom seen from the ground. 

Hundreds of colorful birds wait to be spotted, and with some luck you might even follow along with troops of monkeys as they forage through the forest canopy. A walk through the treetops of the jungle is a unique experience one should not miss!

Lunch at the lodge.

Since the early afternoon is the hottest time of the day where animals are less active you have time for a siesta before the afternoon program starts. In the late afternoon you will go on another walk through the jungle. After sunset you can explore the jungle by night and will see a lot of night active animals.

Day 03                                                                                                                              Amazon

• Canoe tour to observation platform
• Afternoon at leisure
• Nocturnal canoe ride

After breakfast you will go on another canoe tour. You will climb a 40 m high tower that will give you access to an observation platform on a so called ceibo-tree from where you can once again observe the fascinating variety of animals of the jungle. 

Lunch at the lodge.

In the afternoon you have the possibility to take a swim in the quiet lagoon or alternatively fish some piranhas.

After dinner you can observe caimans (from the family of alligators) and nocturnal birds from a dugout canoe on the lagoon.

Day 04                                                                                                         Sacha Lodge – Quito

• Transfer lodge - airport Coca
• Flight Coca - Quito (not included)

Transfer to the airport Coca (approx 2,5 hours boat ride and 10 minutes by car) for your flight back to Quito.
