Inhabited already in the Bronze Age, the setting located 40 km West of Prague started its medieval history after foundation of a castle here in 1265. Affected by decline of formerly prosperous iron works in 1875, the village entirely recovered after 1903 with the opening of a well reputed Rückl & Sons family glassworks producing cut lead crystal glass until today.
