Day 02                                                                                                                  Bariloche

  • Meals: Breakfast
  • Day at leisure

Optionally you can book a full day excursion to Puerto Blest (9 hours, Seat-in Basis with private English speaking guide or private basis)

This tour, sailing the full length of the Blest arm of the Nahuel Huapi, is on 100 ft. catamaran, extremely safe and stable in any kind of weather.

From Puerto Pañuelo westwards we are in the Patagonian rest rain forest, and the arm of the lake we are sailing on is actually a fjord carved out by glaciers. Along the way the boat will pass close to Centinela Island, where the founder of this National Park and the Argentine Parks system, Francisco P. Moreno lies buried.

The scenery on both sides of the fjord is very similar to the canals on the southern side of Tierra del Fuego Island.

Port Blest, at the western end of the arm, is reputed to be one of the rainiest spots in Argentina, with an annual rain and snowfall of nearly 140 inches. This explains the very lush vegetation, the temperate rain forest. Here you have the possibility to take lunch at Hotel Blest (not included).

Continue to Port Cantaros, from where a boardwalk follows a scenic Cantaros Cascade up to the Cantaros Lake. This walk, with its seven hundred steps is in deep and very wet rain forest, with flora, especially fungus and mushrooms, is not accessible anywhere else in the park. Returning to the dock, we sail back during one hour to the Puerto Pañuelo Port. Transfer by bus to Bariloche.

Day 03                                                                                                                  Bariloche

  • Meals: Breakfast
  • Day at leisure

Optionally you can book a full day excursion to the Tronador (thunder mountain) and the Nalcas waterfall (Seat-in Basis with private English speaking guide or private basis)

This tour heads south on Highway 258 and then across the Huenuleo Plain. Ahead and to the right the Catedral ski area becomes visible as well as the granite spires that give the mountain it's time. Further along, the road follows the shores of Gutierrez Lake with Ventana Mountain on the left. Next comes Mascardi, the Lake of the Seven Colour which you follow first along its eastern arm and then, turning off the paved road, along it's drainage river, the Manso, to lake Los Moscos, with a breathtaking view from above, and the Hess Lake, with banks of reeds and great fishing. You then cross the Manso River, following its western arm into thick forest as far as Pampa Linda, a large clearing with stunted growth due to the rain

shadow caused by Tronador Mountain, situated at approximately 3500 meters above sea level.

Time at leisure for lunch (not included).

The tour continues on along the road to the 180 ft. Nalcas or Alerces waterfall - depending on weather conditions- , at the end of a 15 minutes’ walk. Then you visit the Ventisquero, made up of 60% ice and 40% crushed rock, which gives it dark pieces of rock, producing the thunder that gives the mountain’s name.  The return trip is back along the same road.

Remark: This tour only operates using small vehicles (big buses are not allowed for Tronador). Cars, kombi and minibus up to 23 seats maximum are allowed.
