15 days Tour in Rwanda


Destination: Kigali, Akagera Nemzeti Park, Kampala, Entebbe

15 days excluding flights

Tour program:

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali in the evening/night: Transfer to Woodland hotel

Day 2: Drive to Akagera NP: Transfer to Akagera National park. On arrival, pitch a tent at the campsite. Short game drive in the afternoon. Dinner and campsite.

Day 3: Game Drives at Akagera NP:

Early breakfast at 5:45am in preparation of an early game drive at 6am. It’s important to start early before it gets hot and animals go in hide to avoid the heat.  A good day to see the big 5 plus 12 species of antelopes including the biggest antelopes such as the eland cape and roan antelopes, some of the 525 bird species including 4 albertine rift endemics, reptiles, amphibians, plants, magnificent landscapes, historical sites; a place with the highest concentration of birds per square kilometer in any national park of Africa and hundreds of hippos etc. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 4: Game Drives at Akagera NP

Go for a thrilling boat ride on Lake Ihema to go see schools of hippos, the giant Nile crocodiles and lots of water birds in the morning. Dinner & Overnight at campsite.

Day 5: Drive to Nyungwe Forest NP while passing by the King’s Palace Nyanza and the Genocide Memorial of Murambi (is this possible in one day? - Yes)

Transfer to Nyungwe National Park ­ enroute visit the Cathedral of Kabgayi and other many historical sites such as the ancient King’s palace at Nyanza, National Museum at Huye. Visit to the women drumming group and hear history, taboos etc about Rwanda drums. Proceed to Nyungwe via Murambi Genocide Memorial site. Overnight at Gisakura campsite.

Day 6: Chimp trekking (and other monkeys)

Early breakfast at 4:45am then drive to the pack headquarters for an hour. Stop-by the park offices to pick guide then proceed to the edge of the forest where chimp trekking starts. After trekking, return to the hotel for lunch and refreshment. In the afternoon, go for the fantastic tea plantation around Nyungwe National Park. In the afternoon, optional visit to the local markets or waterfalls in the park – will depend on availability of time. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Campsite

Day 7: Drive to Lake Kivu

Transfer to Kibuye via Muhanga on good roads or using the bumpy roads through the remote but beautiful Congo-Nile trail; taking you through towns of Gitarama as you get fantastic views of the country of 1000 hills and also gives you chance to local activies. Dinner and overnight at Bethane campsite

Day 8: Lake Kivu, boat tour of about half a day

Early morning: Boat trip to go see the island of Napoleon and Peace – Amahoro Island. Afterwards, transfer to Gisenyi via Ngororero on good roads or using the bumpy roads through the remote but beautiful Congo-Nile trail – phase two; taking you through virgin islands of Gisenyi as you get fantastic views of Lake Kivu and also gives you chance to visit tea and coffee plantations. Dinner and overnight Parades Marahide campsite.

Day 9: Drive to Parc National des Volcanoes

Experience traditional dancers and learn about Rwandan drumming, singing and dancing OR learn about Rwandan cooking techniques with a local family, visit street kid project ­ transfer to Volcanoes National Park. Option of enjoying local mountain biking to see local communities. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura campsite.
 

Day 10: Diane Fossey walk

Go to the entrance of the Park early this morning to see the famous gorilla tombs and Diana Fossey graves. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura campsite.

Day 11: Volcano – Bisoke Mountain

Return to the entrance of the Park early this morning to hike one of the most beautiful volcanic mountains with a fascinating crater lake on top. The different vegetation zones give it a unique pictorial background to remember forever. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura campsite

Day 12: Golden monkey trekking:

Return to the entrance of the Park early this morning to see the Golden Monkeys. It is now believed that they are the only feasible population of Golden Monkeys residing in Volcanoes National Park. They are beautiful and endangered primates which have become quite habituated to humans, making it possible to observe them closely. Dinner and Overnight at Muhabura Campsite.

Day 13: Gorilla Trekking

Volcanoes National Park:

After breakfast we transfer to the park.

After completing our park formalities we are embark on a once in a life time experience of tracking mountain gorillas.

Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long lost cousin. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!!! You get so close to these awesome giant primates. You stare at each other blankly not knowing who to break the long silence first. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. 

Be back at the base in time for a late lunch! Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy.  Dinner and overnight at

Day 14: Transfer to Kampala.

Breakfast at 8am then depart from hotel to Kampala via Cyanika border. The beautiful 10 hour drive takes you through the most touristic and adventurous sites of Uganda. Dinner and Overnight at Impala heights hotel.

Day 15: To Entebbe, flight back in the evening

Resting day until time for airport transfer – END OF TRIP.
