Iceland Highlands 8 days/7 nights

Take in the exceptional beauty of Iceland’s highlands. The Kjolur and Sprengisandur mountain roads take lead you through the uninhabited interior of the country, crossing moon-like volcanic landscapes and passing close to ice-caps. Total contrasts to such scenery can be found in the verdant fertile valleys on the north and south coasts The trip offers an amazing variety of places to visit,with views of volcanos including the famous Eyjafjallajökull and stops at glaciers, waterfalls and hot springs. 

Day 1: Arrival in Keflavík - Blue Lagoon - Reykjavik Arrival at Keflavik Airport. Pick-up of rented vehicle and drive to Reykjavik for your first night’s stay in Iceland. Depending on arrival time, we recommend that you make a stop at the Blue Lagoon on the way.

Day 2: Reykjavik – Thingvellir - Gullfoss/Geysir Highlights of this day: Golden Circle, Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, Strokkur, waterfall Gullfoss. Overnight in Gullfoss/Geysir area.

Day 3: Kjölur – Skagafjörður Highlights of this day: Highlands of Iceland, Kjölur, Hveravellir, Skagafjörður, Glaumbær museum, Akureyri town. Overnight in Akureyri area. 

Day 4: Myvatn Highlights of this day: Lake Myvatn, waterfall Godafoss, Dimmuborgir, Skútustaðir, Námskarð, Krafla, Leirhnjúkur. Overnight in or near the Myvatn area.

Day 5: Myvatn – Husavik – Dettifoss – Myvatn Highlights of this day: Husavik, Tjörnes peninsula, Ásbyrgi, waterfall Dettifoss. Overnight in or near the Myvatn area.

Day 6: Myvatn – Sprengisandur Highlights of this day: Wild highland area, waterfall Aldeyjarfoss, Sprengisandur, Glacial Rivers. Overnight in or near the near Landmannalaugar area.

Day 7: Landmannalaugar – Reykjavik Highlights of this day: Landmannalaugar, Thjórsárdalur, Stöng museum, waterfall Hjálparfoss,  Reykjavik. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 8: Departure Drive back to Keflavik Airport for your flight back home. Or book an extra night in Reykjavik, the vibrant capital of Iceland!

Accomodation Classification We offer a choice of two types of accommodation: Budget and Comfort. 

Budget - Rooms without private facilities. Budget accommodation may be in country hotels, farmhouses and/ or guesthouses. All rooms have made-up beds; some of these rooms have washbasins with hot and cold water. Showers and WC in shared facilities. Most of the facilities booked by Iceland Tours offer dinner during the summer time.
